This package is aimed at freeriders and mountain touring adepts.
Gulmarg resort is the only real resort in the Indian Himalayas situated in the Pir Panjal range, part of the western Himalaya.
It is located 50 km west of Srinagar, nestled at 2700m of altitude, accessible by road.
It offers several lifts:
- Gondola phase 1: 2700m to 3100m
- phase 2: 3100m to 3979m
- one 4 seater chairlift from 3100m to 3600m,
All terrain from these lifts is freeride terrain, the bowl under the gondola is a secured area for avalanches.
Mountain touring is possible around Gulmarg and from top of phase 2 to the summit of Mt Afarwat at 4300m.
Sun and powder are guaranteed, Gulmarg has the heaviest snowfall in the Himalayas with around 15 meters due to its specific geographical location.
On sunny days enjoy the view on two mythical summits the Nanga Parbat 8126m and the K2 8611m.
The resort’s amazing endless terrain covered with pristine dry curry powder offers a wide variety of lines. Steep couloirs for extreme riding, wide open areas and spacious forests to savour with elevations of up to 2500 meters.
Here, even a bad weather day is a good powder day, riding through the enchanted forests you might even spot some monkeys on your 600m elevation runs.
Using jeeps to come back up and do it again…. (usually only when resort lifts are closed)
To relax after a perfect day shredding you will be staying in the oldest family run hotel in Gulmarg, the Nedou’s Hotel a 3/4 star established in 1888.

Please be patient and understanding, have strong resources within you to adapt to any situation that might arise or that might be different to your original plan.
At Gulmarg, you will be evolving in untamed nature you need to respect the weather, the wildlife, the snow conditions, the guides….. and yourselves by adapting your riding to an area, that is wild and that is situated at high altitude.
Package program
Prior to our meeting
Arrival in Delhi – Flights from Europe usually arrive around 1am
Departure from Delhi 7am/ 8.55am
Domestic flights to Srinagar. 1h55 flight with Air India
Day 1 Arrival day
We will meet you at your exit of Srinagar airport
Transfer you and your luggage to Gulmarg by private jeep 1h30/2h drive
Check in at your hotel in Gulmarg
Welcome drink and a short briefing
Evening meal, self gear check and rest
6 or 9 possible skiing days in Kashmiri territory
On the first day, before we go on the mountain together we will do a ski gear and safety gear check.
Followed by some tuition on the use of your safety gear, on avalanche safety and mountain awareness.
We will then freeride the rest of the day.
As for the remaining days
Breakfast around 7.30am, leave the hotel at 9am
your daily activities will be some of the following
- Accessible Freeride terrain from the resort lifts
- Mountain Touring from top of phase 2 Gondola
- Mountain touring from Gulmarg, forest runs
- Runs to the bottom of the valley from top of phase 2 /-2500m vertical, return to Gulmarg by jeep
- Runs through forest down from Gulmarg -600m back up by jeep ( when lifts closed usually when its snowing or that it is to windy at the top )
You finish skiing around 4.30pm

Transfer to Srinagar Airport by private taxi. Flight to Delhi at 9.25am
Possibility of spending your last night in Srinagar either by choice, if you wish to spend a night in a floating boat hotel on Srinagar’s lake
or by necessity due to heavy snowfall, as not to miss your flight.

Access
The nearest international airport is New Delhi airport.
From there you have a domestic flight to Srinagar airport, which lasts around 1h30
Departure from Delhi 7.15am/10.15am/10.50am.
We will meet you on your exit of Srinagar airport.
We will transfer you to your hotel in Gulmarg by private taxi.

Safety tips / Health
This is a Freeride / Touring package, you need to be able to ski powder and unprepared snow comfortably.
A good physical health is needed, you will be active at high altitudes, Gulmarg is at 2700m and you may be hiking up to altitudes as high as 4300 meters.
No need to worry about Altitude sickness, you have plenty of time to adapt with your first day/night at Gulmarg and we will make sure to not move up to fast on your first riding day.
Please mention any health conditions, any allergies or serious medicationyou may be taking when you book with us.
Avalanche Risks and safety
Avalanche danger in mountains is always present.
WSA has years of experience at recognizing areas and snow conditions that are a high avalanche hazard, to avoid them.
We will make sure on the first day that everyone has the adequate gear and knows how to use it. We will provide you with a tutorial on this topic.
Gulmarg has a proficient ski patrol team. They regularly blast the main bowl under the gondola for avalanches.
Thought you must accept all the risks that come with skiing remote and uncontrolled areas.
The correct mountain attitude is of essence.
Rescue Evacuation Procedure
We do our very best to not encounter such a situation.
By having small groups, a ratio max.4 pers.per guide, thus allowing our guest to ski safely in there comfort zone.
In the event of an accident that can not reasonably be evacuated by the Gulmarg ski patrol (by sledge or skidoo) to the local hospital in Gulmarg, we will contact mountain rescue to evacuate the victim by helicopter, to the hospital in Srinagar.
60 mins maximum from any of our position. (Of course weather dependent)
We have a GPS positioning with us at all times and a radio to communicate with ski patrollers.
There are several hospital run by very efficient staff in Srinagar.
If further medical assistance is needed, we will contact the East West Medical Centre
in New Delhi, who operate medical assisted evacuations and would transfer you to the Apollo Hospital in Delhi or to airport for medical repatriation or to your country of origin.
Gulmarg-Delhi by helicopter is a 4 hour flight.
Ski/Snowboard touring Gear
We advise you to use suitable gear :
- Skis : wide powder skis minimum 100mm width, mounted with touring bindings, adjustable poles, skins and snow knives.
- Snowboard : split board with compatible bindings, telescopic poles, skins and snow knives or a normal board with snow shoes.
